MP Visits Rosehill Park Session
UK tennis charity Tennis For Free (TFF) welcomed Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake to their free coaching scheme in Sutton on Sunday.
The charity launched its free coaching scheme at Rosehill Park in Sutton in October 2011 in partnership with Sutton Council, Surrey LTA, Sutton Housing Partnership and supported by California Raisins. In this time a vibrant, fun community has been created with tennis, as well as health and fitness, at the core.
Mr Brake participated in the session under the guidance of TFF’s LTA qualified tennis coaches.
Speaking of his experience during the visit Tom Brake said: “It was great to see the Rosehill Park tennis courts full of enthusiastic young and older people this Sunday.
“Tennis for Free is doing great work introducing adults and children to the game free of charge. Tennis is beneficial for health and fitness but also helps build communities.
“This is a great scheme which I am really pleased to see being enjoyed by the residents of Sutton and I really encourage everyone to go to Rosehill and give it a go.”
Claire Hamilton, Surrey Tennis Development Manager at the LTA, said: "This is an example of successful partnership between the LTA, TFF and Rosehill to deliver community tennis.
“We're delighted that our funding has helped to provide local people with free tennis as part of a wider, affordable tennis programme.”
Andrew Taylor Chief Executive of Sutton Housing Partnership said: “The Tennis for Free coaching programme in Sutton is something we are very proud to support.
“It's a great opportunity for our residents and their families to try a new sport, which they may not have a chance to do if it wasn't for these Sunday sessions.”
He added: “Tennis for Free is helping to bring communities together and I would urge anyone who is thinking of going along to a session to give it a try.”
Paul Jessop, CEO of Tennis For Free, said: “We are delighted to have Tom Brake MP visit our free coaching site at Rosehill Park so he can see the benefits it delivers to the local community.
“Hearing Mr Brake’s endorsement for what we do for local communities, especially in terms of health and fitness, will hopefully help us to expand the free coaching scheme throughout the country.”
